Potty time!

The next big hurdle on my ongoing list of motherhood "to-do's" is the big P: potty training. I'm not going to push the kids, I've heard too many horror stories. But I am going to gently nudge them. They already have potties and they enjoy sitting on them. Eli has even sat on it naked which I'd love to encourage more of since if an "accident" happens I can make a big deal about how proud I am. Since they love stories now, I mean LOVE (they enjoy stories more than drawing or even their water table! So that's a lot of book love, which Shawn and I are of course thrilled about), I figure it's time to start really pushing the potty books. We've borrowed some from friends but I see these books may get lots of loving so I think it's best if we get some of our own. So on that note I have made an Amazon wishlist of potty training books I'd love to get the kids and, just in case someone was wondering, I'd have no problem whatsoever being gifted these books (what's better, they're on a 4 for 3 sale and there's four books listed so buy all four and it'll only cost the price of three of them).

With any luck, but the end of the summer we can get to the point where we can take a naked week and get potty training over with. Well, daytime training, at least. I don't know if they'll be ready but I can hope they will (and these books will only help, *wink*wink*nudge*nudge*!) We'll roll up the carpet, stock up on paper towels, and let the girls figure out for themselves that it's either the floor or the potty, and only one of them leads to sticker rewards.

So, let the gift-getting begin!

(I'm not being too obvious, am I?)

(I'm not being too subtle, am I?)

Moooo!

I have more pictures and videos to updates whenever I next get a chance to transfer them off my camera. Meanwhile, let me share some updates.

Today the girls and I read their I Spy book and they could point out every single one of the spied objects, and more! We've had this book since they were infants and still find new things they can recognize each time we read it (highly recommended for other parents!). We also read Tiras Cham for the bazillionth time and the kids love to dance when we get to Bim Bam Bam!

Bracha is great at making animal noises. She knows the sounds made by a horse (nay!), cow (moo!), sheep (baaa!), dog (woof!), cat (meyow!), mouse (eek!) and money (ooh oh ah ah!). Eliana has an incredible vocabulary and she she liked up her toy animals the other day she even knew the word for zebra! Bracha calls it a horse. Also, when Shawn took out his guitar to play music a couple of days ago, Eli took out a card from a matching picture game with a picture of a guitar on it!

Bracha had a nasty week with mild fevers, yucky poop, lots of coughing and drooling as she cut her molars. HUGE YAY for final teething!!! Now poor Eliana must be going through it because she's been coughing in her sleep all evening.

Our new favorite past time is baking muffins. The girls LOVE mini muffins and I love trying new muffin recipes. I even found a creative, and tasty, way to use up the frozen peas and carrots that the girls wouldn't eat. Now they do! We sit on the floor and I measure out amounts and they dump it in and mix the bowls. They're especially good at putting the paper liners in the pans and at eating the final product!

Today we had a Roxette party in honor of their upcoming Israeli performance. The girls and I had a blast dancing around the kitchen to Dressed for Success. Then I gave them "manicures" (cut their nails and painted them pink). We had so much fun!

See? I promised you more

New beginings

In honor of Passover, spring cleaning, and breaking 250 posts, it was time for the blog to undergo a makeover. I hope you enjoy the new layout!

Now that you've been able to catch up on videos and pictures of the kids (and yes, there are still more to come) let me tell you a bit about what's been going on with the girls.

They're much more verbal. They talk plenty and are starting to connect two words into little sentences, but only just starting that (love you, hi abba, etc.) I know not all of you will agree but we've decided to send them to an English language gan (daycare) next year. Their English is really just about to take off and I want them to have a strong basis in one language before we confuse them too much in another. As it is twins tend to be slower in developing their language skills and children raised in bilingual environments even more so. It's not like they don't hear plenty of Hebrew. We listen to and sing Hebrew songs, read Hebrew story books, and they hear it outside plenty. But English is their primary language and we'll give it a year, maybe two, to really flow then put them in Hebrew gan. They'll still be young enough to not be far behind and to pick it up quickly. Since Shawn and I are both fluently bilingual that should help the process.

They have very clear opinions about what they want to wear, thus the many tutus over the last few months. I'm a little embarrassed sometimes when i send my kids out the door but I think it's more important for them to be able to be creative and express themselves so as long as it's weather appropriate I pretty much let them wear what they want, except their shabbat shoes, which are special and for shabbat kodesh only.

We now shop for four since they are of course full fledged eaters, and don't buy them anything special except for the things they like more than anyone else (Eliana scarfs pickles and olives like there's no tomorrow, Bracha is still crazy for baby corn) and both love veggie hot dogs, granny smith apples, oatmeal, mini-muffins, orange juice, eggs, peanut butter sandwiches, pizza, felafel, and more. They still have bottles for nap and bed times (with water only) and don't drink milk at all except for then they slurp down the leftover in their morning bowl(s) of cereal. My kids went through fifteen boxes of Shreddies in about seven weeks!!!

They nap once a day, early in the morning, and are firecrackers after that, full of playful energy. It's summer here now so they'll get to run around outside a ton and we're going to try and make weekly zoo trips, still our favorite family outing.

I love the people they are growing in to. They love animals, singing, dancing, drawing, reading books, and the occasional Disney movie. They're funny, loving, adventurous, and just very happy children. I couldn't be prouder.

Post 250!
